PostDoc Researcher (70%) at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland

The preferred start date is 1 June 2022 and the funding of the contract is limited to three years. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to a research project entitled “Data Politics and New Regimes of Mobility and Control During and After the COVID-19 Pandemic” under the supervision of Prof. Ola Söderström, University of Neuchâtel and Prof. Sophie Oldfield, University of Cornell and University of Cape Town. The project will analyze the development, form, uses and problems of digital mobility tracings as tools of governance drawn on by municipalities, digital platforms, and civil society organizations in Cape Town and Geneva (2012 – 2024). The empirical focus of this position is Switzerland and the Geneva region. She*he will be part of a team including a Postdoc based in Cape Town and a data analyst specialized in critical data studies.

Requirements : You have completed a doctorate in one of the social sciences (preferably geography, sociology, anthropology, political sciences or critical data studies), which you defended no later than five years ago (date of viva voce). Excellent knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods is required. Excellent written and oral command of English and a very good knowledge of French are required. We expect an interest in interdisciplinary collaborations with PostDocs, doctoral students and other network members in the framework of NCCR activities. Regular event attendance at the University of Neuchâtel, or elsewhere in Switzerland as well as online, is required.
